Your ratings are intended to provide you with real-time feedback that compares directly with your own perceived beliefs about how well you are performing against a specific goal. LUMEN provides an aggregate visual snapshot of your performance as well as specific ratings and comments from your raters.
Snapshot at a glance
On your dashboard you will see a graph depicting your personal ratings contrasted against an aggregate average from your raters over a 30-, 60- and 90-day period. Your ratings will appear in gray, and your raters aggregate average will appear in pink. This view allows you to see on average how you are perceiving your performance compared to how your raters are perceiving your performance. If you do not enter a rating for a particular date, there will be a “break” in what is otherwise a continuous grey line.
Specifics
If you click the “view ratings” tab, you can view specifics about your ratings. This view provides you with the specific rating you received from a specific rater, the date, and an observation/impact note if your rater entered one. You can set whether you would like to be notified when there is more than 3 points difference in your rating vs one of your raters. You can also set in preferences whether you’d like to be notified whenever a rater enters an observation/impact note.
The scale
The scale is intended to drive conversation rather than focus on the specific number. It is intended to be directional – the lower end of the spectrum would indicate where you need to do things differently, while the upper end of the spectrum will tell you what things you should keep doing. In the middle there will be a blend of opportunities for growth, with some areas that you are doing well. The most important takeaway is having meaningful conversations and understanding how to apply what you have learned real-time.
Tips to get the most out of your LUMEN ratings
- Receptivity: Be sure you are a motivated learner who is open to feedback.
- Perspective: This tool allows you to more immediately course correct than an annual review would. Treat the data as perspective that will grant insights on your leadership.
- Data: Use your data to ascertain patterns; they will be revealed through internal coaching where available, and disciplined examination of feedback.
- Relationships: Consider LUMEN as a vehicle to strengthen and enhance relationships from key stakeholders.
- Subordinates: Be sure to mitigate power dynamics of a direct report rating you. This means you need to recognize aloud the fact that your direct report is taking a risk serving as your rater. Feedback is not anonymous.
